Albert's Birthday

On Tuesday it was Albert's birthday, and I did everything I could to give him a super nice day!

Starting with breakfast: A fruit salad with kiwi, strawberries, peaches, banana and watermelon. A pint of freshly squeezed orange juice, some egg on rye sandwhiches and strawberry quark with peaches, strawberry and  a dollop of whipped cream. 

The rest of the day was spent in similar indulgence. Since we woke up so early (around 4-5am) we went for a morning coffee later at the look out tower and had some Finnish style donuts (munkki) and then went and played some mini-golf. Albert beat me by 1 point! But I guess it's customary to let the birthday boy win.. haha :)

We then met up with a friend and had a delicious Indian buffet at Nanda Devi. I hadn't had indian food in so long and oh boy did I miss it! I completely over-ate and felt like I could have been pushed onto my side and rolled home, but it was so worth it.

In the evening we had some cake that I baked the night before. It was sort of a 'prinsessakakku' or princess cake, vanilla cake with strawberry, raspberry and vanilla filling, marzipan, and topped off with strawberries and cream.


So no healthy recipes to be shared here, but I think an occasional indulgence is key to building a healthy and happy relationship with food :) But just as a precaution, I did run a little extra at the gym the day before in addition to my blogilates May Calendar workout, just to make sure that I wouldn't have any creeping feelings of guilt during the day. Eating always makes me happy, so right now I'm just teaching myself to let go of any guilt for an occasional over-indulgence.

Snow Acid Bunny

This past weekend I went with my parents to Hyvinkää to see my grandpa (read: Pappa) and I wanted to share a little something I made in the snow. Even though it was -6 degrees the sun was shining so brightly that it melted the top layers of snow and made it  possible for me to craft a little Snow Acid Bunny!  It's probably been about 13 years since I made anything out of snow, so as you can imagine I was pretty excited.


The building process went pretty smoothly but I did struggle with his mouth and eyes. When we had arrived at my grandpa's we were greeted by a colorful array of birds, so after a few failed attempts at using twigs and berries I opted to use sunflower seeds instead. I think they ended up looking pretty good and if the birds are brave enough to approach him, they'll get a little treat!

Happy Valentine's Day!

Good morning, and happy Valentine's day! I hope everyone has a wonderful day, whether you spend it with your friends, family, that special someone, or by yourself. Today is all about showing appreciation for the people you love, and pampering yourself and those around you!



We started our day off with some English scones with whipped cream and jam, and some freshly squeezed orange juice. Such a sweet start to a sweet day :)

Some exciting news!

2013 is looking pretty amazing, because this year I'm going to have two summers! One in the summer here in Finland, and then another in December in... South Africa!  I'm super excited because I've always wanted to go there and also because I'll be going with my lovely Albert. :)

Today it's been exactly two years since my dog Bruno passed away and I still think about him daily. <3

I still have dreams of both of these lovelies, and it makes me miss them so much! My heart aches. But I can't help but smile at all the wonderful memories they gave me . <3

My friends have psychic powers

This morning I woke up, feeling slightly hungover, but more importantly with an overwhelming feeling of nostalgia and missing my friends. I miss it all. The starbucks dates that lasted till 1am. The lunches at Michaelangelos. The afterschool chats at McDonalds. Spring-break in Bali. Riding in Charlie's car. Playing circle of death. Damai. Trips to Phi-Phi. Lunchtime by the field. Dinners at Ciccio. Reggae nights. Drinking at Anna's pool. Movie nights at Sarah's. All of it! Its so hard wishing to relive those moments, when you know that so many of them can't ever happen again...

but I get up, go on my facebook, and find exactly what I needed: Sarah had written on my wall just to ask what was up and to say she missed me. And Ria posted a status update just to send some love out to her friends and fam (including me :)! )

Its hard looking back and realizing things can't ever be the same. But  its nice to know that some things will never change.  Love all of my KL friends so much! And I miss you every day. xx <3
